| WAY too much, and WAY too scatteredThis book did not help me at all! I read, more or less skimmed, the entire thing. HUGE mistake! I ended up reusing my AP World book to prepare for the SAT. The ideas in here are way to concentrated on the details, a lot more than even what other Barron's does, and the information will never be tested on the SAT.
So, I decided at first this book might be a reference book for the future, if I need to look up something really quick, but as I read through I realized the thing is a piece of junk. NO ORGANIZATION, FALSE GENERALIZATIONS, VERY POOR CHRONOLOGICAL ARRANGEMENT!
To make things worse, the tests in here are practically impossible (and it's not just me. I felt the actual thing is somewhere around 100 times easier), and there were mistakes to at least 5 or 6 questions. The explanations are short and useless, and because the book is so poorly organized it is difficult to search the correct information in the text!
If I could give one piece of advice to the authors, here it is:
Stop trying to show readers you can outcompete other review books on how much history you stuff here, and stop trying to show readers how creative you can get putting the history together. Give them what they want, and that's a book with a good SAT II review.
I am so disappointed with Barron's right around now. I am switching review books to Princeton.

| Not Quite Seuss - a review of "The Fat Cat Sat on the Mat"If you are looking for a book in order to practice '-at' words, this is the one. The author went a bit berserk trying to fit them into a story, which is perhaps why the plot is a bit awkward. But in any case, there are lots of -at's including cat, bat, hat, vat, sat, mat, rat, fat, brat, that, flat, pat, and tat. (And I wouldn't be surprised if I have missed one or two others. )
Despite all these simple words the book has garnered an Accelerated Reading designation of 1.9. This means that the book is really geared for children who are essentially 2nd Graders. And indeed, harder words include: broom, crazy, witch, Wilma, stares, won't, closer, and stupid.
This last word along with the mom-despised 'hate' are two of the reasons I can't get all excited about this book despite the fact that my five year old son seems to think it's okay.
Other reasons include some just awkward elements such as the fact that the cat sleeps in a vat. I don't get that. And somehow after all the 'ats' it is annoying to get some rhymes like fish-and-dish, and broom-and-room.
Three Stars ::: This is an average sort of book. The artwork is unexceptional, and the story is just plain silly, but sometimes that's just the sort of thing that children like. Personally, my mom-eyes twitch every time we run across the words, brat, hate, and stupid, so this one's going back to the library and we won't be buying a copy for home.

| Tough. Too tough for even the writers, it seemsI'll put it out now - I ranked top 5% for the NJ science league for physics I . I've had many experiences with questions aimed at really testing your knowledge, and some of these questions do that. But some of them do it too much, to an extent where the question covers information NOT even in the information they cover in their chapter review sections. Worse, there are many glaring errors, both in their review, in their tests/questions, and their reasoning for their questions. Their questions, like i said, aim to test you, but often it only comes off as confusingly worded. Sometimes, the answer they find uses numbers different than initially stated (one question used 125m/s, but the answer worked off 100m/s.).
To be honest, the only thing going for this book is its name - barrons, without a doubt, is tough. But too tough, even for the writers of the book. If physics is not a strong subject for you, then find another book. You will most likely find it easier to follow Read more...
