| Kaplan's Biology compared to othersI got a 760 on the test (40 points below my goal). Although I read through the princeton review book (which reads like a novel, but not), the barron's book (which DOES have irrelevant stuff), and the REA book (which has 6 practice tests, but the material it reviews doesn't seem quite standard), I used Kaplan's mainly. It takes a lot of time to review, but it covers everything in an organized way, with 5 main subjects. Another note: Use the fourth edition, the one with a green and black cover. All of the "effective through 2003" editions are printed on brighter, higher quality paper than the editions that were "improved." I find it easier to read from this paper, that is just like the paper in your copy machine.

| just the basics, thanksThe fact is that, unless you're a punk rocker (3 chord rock), one cannot arrange varied/weaving (interesting) music without basic music theory knowledge. One must understand what the "major scale" is, how it relates to chords and, ultimately, "modulating" to chord progressions in different keys. Without this knowledge, music is a dead-end street.
I've tried other theory learning materials and all of them were confusing by iether a lack of restraint and/or organization. Guitar Theory Basics is just that: the basics...taught in a simple, linear fashion that works. Even I, with a doctor diagnosed case of ADD, absorbed all the information on this disk.
It has on-screen tablature, so there no need to fetch en extra booklet and being able to read music notation isn't necessary. Just pop the DVD in and learn.

| Excellent book for mathematically challengedBeing more verbally inclined, I knew I would need some serious help boosting my pitiful math SAT score. I previously scored 45 (450) on my PSAT, and I knew that the colleges I'm looking at wouldn't even give me a second glance with that score. I had tried everything (tutors, SAT practice books, flashcards), the whole nine yards. Nothing could keep me interested! Luckily (a week before my June SAT date!) I found this book. It may sound far-fetched, but having pop culture and words explain these math concepts to me actually caused some of the problems to become ingrained in my memory. Now, with only a week to study, I can't say I did superb on my SAT score (580). However, this book isn't solely limited to JUST the SAT. Two weeks later (with more studying), I took the ACT and, although I haven't received my scores, I know I did considerably better than my previous ACT test.The other reviewer is right. You definitely will need more practice than this book, and these questions aren't set up exactly the way the SAT is. (After all, ETS isn't going to ask you about 30-60-90 triangles and lounge singing). However, I think it's a great start for learning the foundation, and if you've had basic math classes (HS algebra), the concepts will come back to you after a while.
